Privacy Policy

Last updated: 22 October 2026

1. About this policy

Modern Money respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use modernmoney.co.za or buy from us, why we collect it, who we share it with and what your rights are under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

2. Who is responsible for your information

3. What we collect

  • When you buy: your name, email address, phone number, billing address (and delivery address for a physical copy), what you bought and your order history.
  • Your account: your login details and your progress through the Masterclass (lessons completed and quiz results).
  • Newsletter: your email address (and first name if you give it) when you sign up or tick the newsletter box at checkout.
  • When you contact us: what you send us.
  • When you use the site: technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, and the cookies described below.
  • Personalised eBook: your name, contact details and order email are printed on the pages of your eBook copy and embedded in the file.

We do not collect or store your card details. Payments are handled by Yoco. We do not knowingly collect personal information of anyone under 18 without the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

4. Why we use it

  • To process and deliver your order and give you access to your products.
  • To run your account and track your course progress.
  • To send you order confirmations, access details and service emails.
  • To send you our newsletter – only if you opted in. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link.
  • To answer your questions and handle refunds or complaints.
  • To keep the website secure and working properly.
  • To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.
  • To personalise your eBook so we can identify the licensed purchaser, protect our copyright and discourage unauthorised sharing.

We process your information because it is needed to perform our agreement with you, because you consented (for example to the newsletter), or because the law requires it.

5. Who we share it with

We only share what is needed, with service providers who help us run the business and who must keep your information safe:

  • Yoco – card payment processing.
  • Kit (ConvertKit) – our newsletter and email platform.
  • Our website host and email delivery provider – to run the website and send emails.
  • Wistia and YouTube – to play videos on the site and in the Masterclass.
  • Courier – to deliver physical copies (paperback and hardcover).
  • Professional advisers and authorities where the law requires it.

We never sell your personal information.

6. Information sent outside South Africa

Some of our providers (for example Kit and Wistia) store information outside South Africa. We only use providers that are bound by laws or agreements giving your information a level of protection similar to POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires.

7. Cookies

Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use:

  • Essential cookies – to keep you logged in, remember your cart and process checkout. The site cannot work without them.
  • Video cookies – set by Wistia and YouTube when you play a video.

We do not currently use advertising or tracking cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site (like your cart and account) may then stop working.

8. How we protect it

The website uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, payments are processed by Yoco, and access to our systems is limited to people who need it. If a security breach affects your information, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

9. How long we keep it

We keep order and payment records for as long as tax law requires (generally five years). We keep your account while it is active so you can keep accessing your products. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. After that, we delete or anonymise your information.

We keep a record of which eBook copy was issued to whom for as long as needed to protect our copyright.

10. Your rights

Under POPIA you may:

  • ask what personal information we hold about you and request a copy;
  • ask us to correct or delete it;
  • object to us processing it, or withdraw your consent (for example by unsubscribing from the newsletter);
  • complain to the Information Regulator.

To use any of these rights, email info@modernmoney.co.za. We may ask you to confirm your identity first.

11. Complaints

Please contact us first so we can try to resolve your concern. You may also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa): inforegulator.org.za – POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
